Markin is a teacher's tool created by Martin Holmes for marking student writing in electronic form. A student's text can be pasted into Markin from an e-mail message or a word-processor file. The teacher can then annotate the text using a set of buttons, footnotes and other kinds of feedback. The marked text can then be exported as a World Wide Web page in HTML format, and sent back to the student. The student, opening the page in a Web browser, will see that parts of the text have been made into links. Clicking on a link will take the student to the teacher's comment or error diagnosis. The program will also automatically compile error statistics for each piece of work which is marked. Download as shareware. Only short texts can be marked up without paying and registering. MarkUp

Students practice punctuation and capitalization rules by finding and correcting errors in paragraphs or longer text. The bottom of the screen shows a list of the missing punctuation marks and the number of capital letters. While some exercises come with the program, teachers are expected to add more of their own material. It works well to use students' own work as the basis for exercises.
